We are proud to announce that the return sites network is taking shape in preparation for the rollout of phase 2 of the deposit-refund system modernization deposit-refund March 1, 2025. Two return sites now open: a Consignaction+ in Granby and a Consignaction in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough of Montreal.
The goal is to offer citizens fast and efficient service thanks to high-performance equipment incorporating cutting-edge technologies. Citizens are already taking advantage of the service, and many have expressed their enthusiasm for this new approach.
A robust, hybrid network
The network being implemented byQBCRA, in collaboration with its partners, will be robust. The new infrastructure will have the capacity to handle the anticipated high volumes, as the number of units subject to deposit-refund from 2.8 billion to 5 billion with the addition of wine and spirits bottles, water bottles, and multi-layer cardboard.
It will be a hybrid system consisting of different types of return sites, namely 1) return sites and Consignaction+ return sites , exclusively reserved for the recovery of returnable beverage containers, and 2) return points at retailers, called Zone Consignaction, equipped with new-generation automated recovery machines. All of these sites will be easily accessible and located along citizens' usual shopping routes. Citizens will also be able to download a mobile app to obtain a refund for their recovered containers via a secure electronic channel.
Consignaction: Single-Unit Return and Express Return
return sites Consignaction will take up residence in commercial premises in the deposit-refund colors. Citizens who use these spaces will be able to make use of the new-generation automated recycling machines (Single-Unit Return) or use the express return service. This service enables residents to drop off their bags of unsorted containers. Once the containers have been sorted and counted, their refund will be sent by secure electronic means.
Consignaction+: single-item returns, Express Return Bulk Return
Larger and capable of handling very large volumes, return sites will be of interest to citizens, industries, businesses, and institutions (ICI), as well as on-site consumer establishments (ÉCSP). In addition to single-item returns and Express Return, they will offer a Bulk Return service Bulk Return even more powerful equipment capable of processing hundreds of containers in a matter of minutes.
