Opening of a Consignaction Express return site
in the Ville-Marie borough (Montreal)

Montreal, October 26, 2026 – As part of the modernization and expansion of the deposit-refund system, the Quebec Association for the Recovery of Beverage Containers (QBCRA)/Consignaction announces the opening of a new Consignaction Ex return site , located at 650 Wellington Street in the Ville-Marie borough of Montreal. This new concept is dedicated to “ Express Return,” a service that allows residents to quickly return their returnable beverage containers.

“With the new Consignaction Express ‘ return site ,’ which joins the network of Consignaction and Consignaction+ ‘ return sites ,’ we’re offering residents a new return option tailored to the realities of certain urban areas. This provides them with a fast and convenient way to return their ‘ redeemable containers ,’” said Jean-François Lefort, vice president of strategy atQBCRA/Consignaction.

return site Consignaction Express

Intended exclusively for the return of returnable beverage containers, this Consignaction Express return site offers only the “ Express Return ” service, allowing residents to quickly drop off a bag of unsorted containers. Refunds for returned containers are processed electronically only, through the Consignaction mobile app. Residents can use the app to track the processing of their bags and receive their refund easily and securely within a few days after the containers have been sorted and counted.

On-site Customer Service

The return advisor team is on site to assist residents with redeeming their containers Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The launch of this Consignaction Express return site is part of the ongoing expansion of the Consignaction network throughout Quebec. The Consignaction, Consignaction+, and Consignaction Express return sites are complementary and help make returning containers easier and more accessible for residents.

A hybrid network of return sites

Residents can return their returnable beverage containers at several thousand “ return sites ” locations throughout Quebec. Since 2024, the network has evolved from a retailer-based return model to a hybrid model that includes Consignaction, Consignaction+, and Consignaction Express locations—reserved exclusively for the return of returnable beverage containers—as well as “Zone Consignaction” return points at participating retailers. This change, driven by the modernization of the deposit-refund system, enables the rapid and efficient processing of larger volumes of containers in order to achieve the target of a 90% recovery rate by 2032.

Phase 2 : Expansion of deposit-refund to include plastic beverage containers

As of March 1, 2025, all plastic ready-to-drink beverage containers, ranging from 100 ml to 2 L, are part of the deposit-refund system. Plastic bottles for water, sparkling water, juice, sports drinks, milk, and spirits are now subject to a deposit, bringing the total to approximately 1.5 billion plastic bottles subject to a deposit.
It should be noted that the government has postponed the expansion of the “ deposit-refund ” program to include two categories of beverage containers: 1) glass containers that are not already subject to a deposit, such as wine and spirits bottles, and 2) multilayer cardboard containers, such as milk and juice cartons. These containers will be subject to a deposit during a third phase, which will take effect on March 1, 2027.
