Toward 2025 – Phase 2 of deposit-refund modernization 

Consignaction: A first Consignaction return site opens in Laval

 

Montreal, November 11, 2024 - In preparation for the second phase of the modernization of the deposit-refund system, the Quebec Beverage Container Recycling Association (QBCRA)/Consignaction is pleased to annouce today that a first Consignaction return site has opened its doors at 5555 des Laurentides Boulevard, suite 2 in Laval. Operating under the Consignaction banner, this return site is equipped with new, state-of-the-art equipment. Everything is in place to recover larger quantities of redeemable beverage containers quickly and efficiently.

 

“The QBCRA/Consignaction is now offering an upgraded user experience for returns of redeemable beverage containers,” said Maryse Taupier, Senior Operations Director, QBCRA/Consignaction. “This return-site model delivers customer-experience innovation and is inspired by best practices.”

Exclusively reserved for the recovery of returnable beverage containers, thisConsignaction return site Consignaction two services: 1) Return per unit with automated recovery machines, or 2) Express Return allows users to drop off a bag of unsorted containers. Another new feature is that citizens who wish to do so can receive their refund via the Consignaction mobile app. For single-item returns, citizens can be reimbursed in cash or via secure electronic transfer, while for Express Return, reimbursement is by electronic transfer only, as the containers are sorted and counted in the following days. Staff are on site to provide customer service. Hours of operation are: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Expansion of deposit-refund to include more containers

When Phase 2 is launched on March 1, 2025, new returnable beverage containers will be added, such as wine and spirits bottles and water bottles, as well as a new material: multi-layer carton. A total of 5 billion beverage containers will be subject to deposit-refund. The new return sites network will have the capacity to handle the anticipated large volumes, and will include at least 1,200 return sites Consignaction, Consignaction+ and Zone Consignaction outlets at participating retailers by March1, 2025.

Consignaction is the official brand promoting the activities of the Quebec Beverage Container Recycling Association (QBCRA) to the general public and stakeholders. The QBCRA is the designated management organization responsible for developing, implementing, financing and managing the deposit-refund system, which has been modernized according to the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle.
