In September 2019, Consignaction launched an advertising campaign to incite companies to install deposit boxes for returnable containers at workplaces. The response was enthusiastic and some 15,000 new deposit boxes were delivered.

“People no longer tolerate seeing recyclable material going to landfills. They install deposit boxes and we assure them that 100% of the containers collected will be recycled,” affirms Normand Bisson, president of Boissons Gazeuses Environnement.

Consignaction’s Facebook page was inundated with positive comments from business owners like Mme. Nancy Lebrun: “I am truly proud of this initiative. It’s very easy to use the deposit system. You just need to change a few minor habits and you feel good about it. If we want to keep this beautiful planet, we have to make some efforts.”

The goal of the current campaign, ending in October, is to encourage companies to collect more than usual, because only 50% of refundable containers consumed outside of households are recycled, while 90% consumed in households do end up being recycled.

“Whenever deposit boxes are available to the staff of a given business, it becomes much easier to return the container and develop some good habits,” adds Frédérick St-Onge, Operations Manager at Boissons Gazeuses Environnement (BGE).
